Reflective Listening: When Nothing Else Works
[The SHELL, Rollinsford]

After hundreds of personal growth workshops, Carol and Dennis have one tool that works when nothing else does. It's their ""big artillery"" to get over the (inevitable) problems that arise in relationships. They have pulled out this bad boy over their 40 year marriage -- when communication got really bad. And it has worked time after time. They will explain and teach it, and guide you in practicing it.

Details: What do you do if you are in a long-term, committed relationship and you have a problem that you just can't seem to get past? You can certainly seek counseling, but that's an expensive proposition. But waiting and hoping ""it goes away"" is far more dangerous, and ultimately, more expensive.

After 40 years of marriage (and a prior four years as good friends), our big secret is Rogerian “reflective listening”, aka Harville Hendrix’s “Imago Couples Dialogue”, aka ""Couple's Talk"".

We pull out this bad boy any time we have a really big issue that is troubling one of us (often about the other, but not necessarily). It has gotten us through whoppers of problems, each time stronger in our relationship.

It requires a committed partner, because the technique is not easy to complete, especially given how poorly we are taught to attend and to empathize with one another, but the steps, if followed, can produce great understanding, healing, forgiveness, and corrective action.

You do not need to come with a partner, but you will get more than twice the benefit if your partner will attend. (And frankly, your partner may be telling you something if not willing to attend. 80 ) However, learning this technique on your own will help you with anyone in your future who is willing to work with you to develop a deeper relationship.

Homework: Please read this description of the technique before you come: ... is-Pratt-3

If you are coming with a partner, read this aloud so that you may both hear it and discuss it.

We will demonstrate how to use the technique, and we will give you opportunities to practice it and coach you on it.

After the introductory session ends at 5PM, you will have an opportunity to have dinner with your partner to practice the technique. And then return to The SHELL, for our Ice Cream Social, to tell us all how it went.
