"Fri May 28 @ 6-11:59P
Capitalism vs. Socialism {W/ Guest Gene Epstein)
[The SHELL, Rollinsford]
______

We'll sit with the legendary Gene Epstein in our Free State liberty clubhouse and watch his recent debate performance on capitalism vs. socialism against Professor Ben Burgis. Then Gene will mount onto our ""hot seat"" and field all questions, comments, and criticisms on his debate performance as well as anything else. (Please RSVP for both the screening -- free/donation -- and the Gene in the Hot Seat -- nominal charge/donation)

Resolution: Socialism is preferable to capitalism as an economic system that promotes freedom, equality, and prosperity.

5P Doors and refreshments open
6P Debate starts
7:45P ""Gene in the Hot Seat""
9P Drinks and mixer

Details: The SoHo Forum is the preeminent modern debate series, usually pitting libertarian values against authoritarianism. Nominally taking place in NYC, it has one, and only one, satellite -- here in the free state, in the liberty clubhouse we call affectionately ""The SHELL"".

Gene will be traveling up to visit us, to view and critique his latest debate, on socialism. We'll hang with Gene, watch, cheer, and jeer, and then segue into a serious albeit ever humorous discussion of Gene's performance defending human freedom from totalitarian socialism. Gene, will mount the stage to address your questions, comments, concerns, and criticisms of his performance. What went right? What did he leave unsaid? How could he have done better? How much did you like his jokes?

Resolution: Socialism is preferable to capitalism as an economic system that promotes freedom, equality, and prosperity.

For the affirmative: Ben Burgis, a philosophy instructor at Georgia State University's Perimeter College and a contributor to Jacobin magazine.

For the Negative: Gene Epstein, director of the Soho Forum, former economics editor of Barron's Magazine and former senior economist for the New York Stock Exchange.
